Visual Communications Designer (Design Thinking)

We at CMHLP are seeking to integrate design thinking and human-centred design (HCD) in our programmes on mental health and suicide prevention. We are looking for a Visual Communications Designer who can explore and create visually appealing human-centred design solutions that align with our design thinking principles.

As part of the Design Thinking team, this position will work collaboratively with the Design Thinking and Research Lead and project teams to translate research findings, stories and concepts into engaging and impactful visual designs.

Role and responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Design Thinking and Research Lead and project teams to understand project objectives and design requirements
  • Translate complex research findings into accessible and actionable visual solutions
  • Create artefacts and outputs, such as design concepts, scenarios, storyboards, personas, journey maps, low- and medium- fidelity prototypes, mockups, for design thinking processes and digital & print media
  • Conduct user testing and gather feedback from diverse internal and external stakeholders on design concepts to make iterative improvements
  • Communicate your design ideas effectively through presentations and visual storytelling
  • Ensure designs are aesthetically pleasing, cohesive, and in alignment with the Centre’s brand guidelines
  • Keep up with design trends and best practices to continually enhance the quality of visual design work

Qualifications and skills

Essential
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of proven experience in visual design (digital & print), with a strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Experience in information design with a strong understanding of design principles, typography, and colour theory
  • Excellent problem-solving and creative thinking skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities
Desirable
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD
  • Experience with human-centred design methodologies and design thinking principles
  • Previous experience working in design thinking environments with interdisciplinary teams
