Media training workshops on mental health & suicide reporting
Scientific research has established the role of poor and irresponsible media reporting in increasing suicide rates. Research also suggests that ethical and responsible reporting of suicides which encourages help-seeking behaviour can help reduce suicides and suicidal behaviour. To ensure ethical reporting, the World Health Organization has issued evidence-based suicide reporting guidelines and best practices for the media.
The Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy, Indian Law Society, Pune, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) provides technical support to media and non-media stakeholders across the Caribbean by:
- Conducting training workshops on Ethical and Responsible Reporting of Mental Health and Suicide
- Leading the co-development of Monitoring and Evaluation Frameworks for Ethical Reporting of Suicides
Media houses, social media influencers, representatives from government departments and ministries, persons with lived experience, mental health and suicide prevention experts, non-profits and community led organisations.
