Itzhak Levav

Itzhak Levav was Professor in the Department of Community Mental Health at the University of Haifa, Israel; Doctor Honoris Causa of the National University of Córdoba, Argentina; Honorary Professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Peru; and a member of the World Health Organization’s panel of experts on mental health. He received honours from several organisations and previously served as Regional Advisor for Mental Health at PAHO/WHO.

He had extensive experience across the Americas in the reorganisation of mental health services and the development of mental health policies and plans. He authored numerous research publications in psychiatric epidemiology and social psychiatry and edited seven books on mental health.
