Nikhil Jain

Dr. Nikhil Jain is a public mental health researcher whose work focuses on suicide prevention, implementation science, and health systems research. With interdisciplinary training spanning medicine, psychology, and public health (social epidemiology), he leads the STRIDE and SPIRIT programmes, along with other implementation research initiatives focused on suicide prevention and public mental health, at the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy.
His work centres on designing, implementing, and evaluating scalable, systems-based approaches that strengthen public and community mental health and integrate suicide prevention across primary healthcare, police, education, and community systems. He has led multi-state implementation research, capacity-building initiatives, and policy engagement with governments and national stakeholders, contributing to the development and scale-up of evidence-informed mental health programmes across India.
Dr. Jain also contributes to global mental health and suicide prevention efforts through technical collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, supporting implementation research, policy development, capacity building, media engagement, and knowledge exchange to strengthen evidence-informed public mental health and suicide prevention programmes across countries.
His research interests include public and community mental health, suicide prevention, implementation science, health systems strengthening, mental health economics and financing, and health policy.
