Sylvester Katontoka

Sylvester Katontoka a Consumer, Founder and President of Mental Health Users Network of Zambia (MHUNZA) was diagnosed with Depression in 1996. In 1998, started working for the promotion of a society free from stigma and Discrimination, the full participation of Consumers in mental health, fighting poverty, and promoting and enhancing the human rights of persons with mental health problems.

Since 1998 I have been involved in mental health activism and have acquired some insights in mental health issues from treatment, care and support to issues of human rights and rehabilitation. Have a University certificate in social work from the University of Zambia and have attended and spoken at number of major conferences including those organized by World Health Organization, World Psychiatry Association, World Federation for Mental Health, World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation, and the First Pan-African Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry Congress.
